How to write wine tasting notes (without the intimidation)

Notes are for future you, not a critic. Use plain language.

Use a simple template

  1. Look — color, clarity, anything you notice.
  2. Smell — two or three words (fruit, spice, earthy).
  3. Taste — sweet/dry, body, acidity, tannins if relevant.
  4. Verdict — would you drink it again? buy a bottle?
SipMarked tag screen with taste and occasion tags, a star rating, notes, and an In My Cellar toggle
Taste tags, a star rating, and your own notes on one screen.
A saved wine in SipMarked with its label photo, rating, notes, journal entry, and location
Your notes stay on the wine's page, right under the label photo.

Write them in SipMarked

Skip the notebook. Tap a few taste tags like Bold or Fruity, add a star rating, and type the rest in the notes box. Your note stays with the label photo, so you always know which bottle it was about.
